The Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has asked GO plc to modify its advertising of its Sports offer, saying it constitutes misleading advertising.

Should the company not regulate itself as was being proposed, the authority reserved the right to take ulterior action as stipulated in the Consumer Affairs Act, it warned

The authority asked Go to enlarge the font size of the terms and conditions in newspaper adverts so that these could be easily read. Readers should be directed to these conditions through an asterisk near the offer price and the paragraph noting the price.

Billboards, the authority said, should make it clear that this offer applied only with specific packages as was indicated in newspaper and website adverts and this should be in a font that could be easily seen.

The freephone number and others consumers could use to ask about the offer should also be listed.

The television advert should indicate that the offer applied only to specific services and the consumer should be given enough time to read the terms. Consumers should also have time to take note of the freephone number.
