Beautiful and better Mellieħa Nights
Once again, Mellieħa Nights 2011 have proved to be bigger and better than ever and they have attracted huge crowds from all over Malta. This is good for local businesses but most of all to give a boost to the Mellieħa people. There has been something for everybody, young and old alike, light-hearted and artistic, food and drink, local arts on display and the main attraction of the three days must have been the Beatles tribute band which saw everybody dancing and singing in the streets just like we see them in an international gig.
Words of praise and congratulations are not enough to thank everybody who made these three magical nights possible. The main person responsible is Robert Cutajar, the mayor, in tandem with his fellow councillors. It is so good to see them working together for the good of this beautiful village. Also, in the background there must be scores of others who have helped to make these last three nights so magical.
We thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts and give a good pat on the shoulder to all concerned. They seem to make things look so easy but we know they are not. Please carry on with this frame of mind and we are sure Mellieħa will be one of the main attractions of the island in no time at all.
Prosit to the mayor, councillors and everyone. We look forward to 2012 with great anticipation.

Yes it is true and praise must be given where and when due as in this marvellous spectacle. However, one swallow does not a summer make and I ,for one,do not share your praise in general of the Mayor or the Council in many other vital and fundamental areas of public service aspects ,commitments or duty of obligartion to provide, such as responding to their local constitutents needs and requirements and being accessible .Write to the Mellieha Council or the Mayor and you will see what I am referring too for they seldom, if ever, respond to concerns or issues raised.-not even affording correspondents the dignity of an acknowledgment tot ehri submissions! It is one thing ,and a mighty fine thing it is,to have these spectaculars but in the cold light of day during the rest of the year many other crucial issues are being ignored-the situation regarding Selmun Castle being just one of many of them for the Centre of Excellence

Mr Murray I think you are right about the the situation regarding Selmun Castle (palace). I don't know the exact details but I have hinted many, many times that Selmun Palace should be part of the Mellieha Heritage so it could be tended to, and hopefully properly maintained. If you look closely you can already see the deterioration starting to set in, and it will be a shame to let this part of history go to waste. Like the Red Tower (it-Torri L-Ahmar) it is a monumental fixture when first approaching Mellieha, either from the North or from the South. Air Malta and or the Government have an obligation to make sure this part of history is properly maintained and the best way to do that is for the Government to assign Mellieha Heritage as guardian like they did with the other two Towers surrounding Mellieha. If done right, this could be a huge tourist attraction and touring this awesome Selmun Palace would really be a treat for all and at the same time they can also tour the new fish factory being built close to the palace.
