The Dancing Scent of Milk and other acrobats at MCC

A spectacular show by a troupe of acrobats from Inner Mongolia is to be held on September 23 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta in collaboration with the China Cultural Centre.

Twenty-seven artistes will present acrobatics, dancing and singing. Many of these acts have netted international and national awards. The acrobatic teams Kicking Bowls Riding Elevated Monocycles and the Dancing Scent Of Milk were presented with the Golden Award in the 13th International Acrobatic Competition at Paris and the International Mongolian Dance Competition respectively.

Some of the items that will be presented, such as Khoomei, a form of throat singing and Mongolian long song which is a central element of the traditional music of Mongolia, are recognised by Unesco as Masterpieces Of The Oral And Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Through these shows, the audience will have the chance to experience the diversified culture of Inner Mongolia and the life of the ethnic groups living there.

Proceeds from the show, to be held under the patronage of the Chinese Embassy, will be donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund. Grand Hotel Excelsior and HSBC are supporting this event.

On the same day till September 27, the China Cultural Centre will hold an exhibition of handcrafts from Inner Mongolia also at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

The exhibition will feature embroidery, chess sets, Ewenki birch bark utensils and Hanika – a traditional paper toy – which are recognised as national cultural heritage.

Four leading craft masters will show visitors how these handicrafts are made. All the hand crafted items will be on sale and the profit will go to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

A paralleled exhibition entitled Beautiful Inner Mongolia will showcase 40 photos which double as a gateway to the vast territory and breathtaking scenery of Inner Mongolia.

Opening times are September 23: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-9.30 p.m.; September 24-27: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7.30 p.m.
