On Saturday, Marsa played against the 13th touring team of the year, Ted Mostyn, who were on their second tour of Malta.

The visitors batted first and quickly lost their opening batsman Phil Dobson for two runs in the first over. The next three batsmen all got good starts and were looking to take the game away from the Marsa team.

A great effort by Mark G. Sacco had the second opening batsman run out for 22 runs. Don Aslow also hit 22 runs and Barney Chase top scored with 24 runs, including two sixes and a four.

The batsmen were mesmerised by the bowling of Gordon Hewitt who took four wickets from just under four overs and only 11 runs.

Kevin Krishna and Sarfraz Ali also bowled well and took two wickets apiece. Sunny Krishna also chipped in with a wicket. The visitors were bowled out in the 31st over and totalled a mere 111 runs.

In reply, Marsa lost opening batsman Chris Naudi in the third over, who scored nine runs. Sunny Krishna took a liking to the bowling and had scored four fours before he was judged LBW for 25 runs.

Mark G. Sacco batted well and scored 21 runs before he was caught. Sam Aquilina played a cautious innings and chalked up 11 runs. Ronnie Sacco tried to outdo the attacking done earlier by Sunny Krishna but only managed to hit three fours before being stumped for 18 runs.

Robert Krishna scored six runs while Javed Shah (five) and Sarfraz Ali (three) saw the home team over the line.

The home side made the runs in the 18th over. For the visiting team, six bowlers, Deak, Dobbs, Barnett, Thorne, Taff and PK, all took a wicket.

On Saturday, the cricket academy/nursery will run from 9 a.m. till 10.30 a.m. At 11 a.m., the last and decisive game of the Summer League between Marsa and Krishna will take place.

For the first time, cricket coaching will be available in Gozo as part of Skolasport. The sessions will be led by two of Malta’s national team representatives, Ronnie Sacco and Mark G. Sacco.
