The Marsaxlokk local council yesterday filed a judicial protest against Enemalta claiming they had “founded doubts” that the last two chimneys constructed at the Delimara power station were built illegally.

The council said that “the height of the chimneys were being kept as a reserve matter” according to the permits for the extension of the original power plant, but despite this, their construction went ahead.

The council said that if it resulted that the chimneys in question were in fact illegally built then they should be pulled down and the site returned to how it was before, as was done with anyone who built illegally.

The council said it was holding Enemalta responsible for any possible damages.

Lawyer Michael Sciriha signed the protest.
