More than 82 per cent of Maltese households with internet access are satisfied or highly satisfied with their providers’ level of service, according to a survey conducted over the past two months by the Malta Communications Authority.

Some 68 per cent of Maltese households have internet access but out of the remaining 32 per cent, only eight per cent indicated that they would be willing to get online in the next year.

Around 800 respondents took part in the telephone survey.

The main reasons mentioned for not getting internet access were that no one in the household needed it, and that the household did not own a computer.

Of the 82 per cent who said they were satisfied with the service they got, 57 per cent were subscribed to a fast ADSL connection, 36 per cent were cable subscribers and the remaining seven per cent were subscribed to other internet technologies.

About 66 per cent of households with internet access today claim that they cannot live without it.

More than 75 per cent of households with internet access do not know what connection speed they have. Results also show that 33 per cent of households do not know the length of their service contract period. Price was the most determining factor for just over half of respondents when it came to choosing between Internet Service Providers.

Around 54 per cent of all households with internet at home would in fact change their internet connection if the subscription charges were to increase by 10 per cent.

In one in four households with internet access, only one family member uses the internet. However, some 31 per cent of households have two web-savvy family members, 22 per cent have three, 15 per cent have four and seven per cent have five or more.
