Malta has offered to help Libya in the control of its airspace, and it is hoped that Air Malta will be among the first airlines to resume flights to Tripoli, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this morning.

Speaking at a PN political activity in Safi, Dr Gonzi reiterated Malta's commitment to help the Libyan people in any way it wished, notably in humanitarian aid, national reconciliation and the building of democratic institutions.

In his address, Dr Gonzi referred to the 9/11 events and said that today's anniversary reinforced Malta's commitment to work for international peace and stability.

He also referred to the forthcoming PN Independence celebration and said the PN would show how people should be proud of their country and confident in its people and in the future. The government, he said, had taken tough decisions and paid a price for them, but one only needed to see the situation in other countries, such as Greece, to see how important those decisions were.
