A group of Grade 9 (Form 2) students from San Andrea Senior School, L-Imselliet, took part in a fun and educational day trip to Sicily organised by their class teachers.
During the trip, the students visited the town of Piazza Armerina to see the Villa Romana Casale. This is one of the largest and most magnificent Roman villas to survive antiquity and is listed as a Unesco World Heritage site. The villa also includes Roman baths.
The group went on to Caltagirone, a small town well known for its ceramic art. The students visited a ceramic factory, where they were given a demonstration on how to make pottery and later bought ceramics for their parents, the most popular item being Il Bummolo Malandrino.
Other highlights of the trip was a ride around the town aboard a trenino and a run up the famous 142 ceramic steps of the Scalinata di Santa Maria del Monte, after which the students treated themselves to a large ice-cream.
