A new book published recently aims to increase public awareness and understanding of judicial remedies available to companies.

Eugène Buttigieg, holder of the Jean Monnet Chair of EU Law at the University of Malta has published Enforcing One’s Rights Under EU Law.

The book is the first of a series of five annual publications and aims to increase awareness and understanding of the judicial remedies and other means of redress available to people or companies, at the national and EU level, to enforce their EU rights. It also aims to generate a discussion of the way in which Maltese authorities and EU institutions may enhance the protection of these rights.

The volume carries papers written by leading scholars, judges and administrators.

The publication discusses the effect of EU law in the national legal systems, in particular the Maltese legal system, and the implications for Maltese citizens; how EU law may serve to provide effective remedies for people; public enforcement of EU law; judicial review and human rights protection in respect of EU measures and national measures falling within the scope of EU law; and ways of seeking redress and assistance outside the courts in respect of EU- related issues and problems.

The book should be of particular interest to members of the legal profession, academics, consultants, advisors, regulators, public officers, business and industry, non-governmental organisations and students.
