Two Gejtus’ replacements at UĦM uncontested

The posts vacated by outgoing Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin secretary general and president, Gejtu Vella and Gejtu Tanti, are set to be taken by Josef Vella and Jesmond Bonnici respectively.

Nominations for the posts, which closed yesterday at midday, were uncontested, leaving the way clear for Mr Vella and Mr Bonnici to succeed “the two Gejtus”, as the two outgoing officials were affectionately known, who have been at the helm of the union for 13 years.

Mr Vella, 38, occupies the post of secretary of the public entities section and Mr Bonello, 40, is the union’s assistant general secretary.

There were two officials nominated for the post of vice-president: Edwin Balzan, 38, who is the secretary of the government employees section, and Andrew Caruana, 74, a member of the executive committee of the pensioners’ section.
