The health authorities closed down four premises due to an imminent risk of public health last month and ordered six operators to stop an activity.

The premises that were closed down are:

Fuyi Cantonese Cuisine, Triq il-Hgejjeg, Bugibba; Caffe Al Latte, Pioneer Corps Road, Bugibba;Main Kitchen of Travellers Lodge; and Belmar Lido, Triq Ramlet, Armier l/o Mellieha.

A hotel was served with an Enforcement Notice and closed down due to presence of Legionella in the water system.

They destroyed 583 kilogrammes of food including 386kg of unrefrigerated fresh chicken, 78kg of ginger powder due to the possible presence of salmonella, 69kg of pork because of illegal food preparation, 40kg of honey due to labelling and durability date irregularities; and 10kg of pies processed in an illegal establishment.

The health inspectorate services within the Environmental Health Directorate said in a report that 770 improvement notices were issued to food business.

This notice is sent to all food business operators following an unannounced inspection to inform food operators about deficiencies noted in their establishments.

The operator is given a deadline by when the deficiencies need to be remedied.
