Wholesale mobile termination rate reduced

The wholesale mobile termination rate has been reduced by 32 per cent to 4.18c a minute in a decision by the Malta Communications Authority.

Mobile termination rates are the fees mobile operators charge other network operators to terminate calls on their networks.

The regulator’s decision, which came into effect on Thursday, followed a review of feedback from stakeholders, including the European Commission.

The MCA said the decision reflected its efforts to continue to reduce the mobile termina-tion rates in line with the principles laid out by the recommendations of the European Commission.

The recommendations aim for rates to be based on efficient costs which avoid competitive distortions for the ultimate benefit of end-users at large. It said the rates would continue to be under review.
