Lifeguards help two swimmers
E.R.R.C. lifeguards this morning assisted two swimmers who found themselves in difficulty while swimming at Ramla Bay, Gozo.
The swimmers needed needed help after being caught in strong rip currents.
They did not need further help after being brought ashore.
The E.R.R.C, which is a Gozo-based volunteer corps, urged swimmers swimmers to watch the colour of the flags hosted on the lifeguards' tower before swimming.
The Lifeguarding service at Ramla is being run on a daily basis till the end of September. The service is possible due to sponsorship from the from the Malta Tourism Authority to cover the running costs, Ministry for Gozo – ECO Gozo, to buy the necessary infrastructure. Support is also being provided by Transport Malta, Civil Protection Department and the Gaia Foundation.

People should not swim in rough seas. It is dangerious and also puts danger on the lifeguards.

Gozo is a nice3 place to visit but boy Ramla Bay is off our list of places to swim as its norouous for under current and unexpected currents which proves to be rather dangerous and hazordous to swimmers, i would suggest Hondoq its the only beach in Gozo worth visitng,. just an honest feed back from a British tourist, saying this we prefer the Maltese beaches ie., Mellieha Bay, Golden bay and Paradise Bay well worth a visit and much safer then the notorous Ramla bay.

Yes we were there this time last year in Gozo for 1 week and 1 week in Malta, the time we were there 2 days out of 4 were really rough and the current at Ramla was up to its usual tricks, no matter how strong a swimmer one is if caught in the under current must as well take your last breath as its really very unpredictable. We made a point now of never going to Ramla Bay to swim but instead spending more time in Mellieha Bay and in malta in general, however Ramla Bay is dangerous and people are warned not to venture further out as one never knows about the under currrent.Thank Christ for the life savers otherwise there would be more people drwoning at Ramla bay in Gozo..

If my memory serves me right there are sign warning people to be careful as Ramla Bay could prove to be very dangerous to swimmers if caught with theunder current especially to the east side of the bay, last year i believe there were 3 people drowned at Ramla not quite sure, this year the area had its shares of fatalities. If it were for the precious lifeguards ther would be more accidents. I hate the bloody place, but Hondoq is well worth a day's visit, small compact but much safer.
