Mats stolen from playground
The Nadur local council has condemned the theft of 32 rubber safety mats that were set beneath the swings of the children’s playground in San Blas and appealed to the public to pass on any information to the police.
The village would suffer from this vandalism, the council said in a statement yesterday.
It pointed out that, over the years, it had made an effort and invested money to create “quality” open spaces.
It was always making an effort to maintain these spaces in a good state and the theft of the rubber mats threw a spanner in the works.
The council thanked the police for their “prompt intervention” and called on the authorities to investigate and, if necessary, take action.

Funny really we do tend to get alot of weekenders in Gozo from the main island, primerily because of the stressful life most lead in Malta, with all the hassle and bassle of traffic, fumes etc., i don't think that a local is the culprit without being bias, cause as the saying goes back home, Never shit on your own door step, its just my assumption, still its a rotten stupid act for anyone to sink so low, sooner or later the person(s) will be caught hopefully a still penality would be in order. Ex-pat who loves Gozo.

I would agree with you that it's a rotten act. Stealing from little kids and stealing from the elderly is about as low as a thief can get. It would hardly be anyone from Nadur as someone would be bound to see the mats wherever they turned up. But you know what will happen if they actually catch someone for it, suspended sentence!

Whilst not condoning the theft of the safety mats, the mind boggles at the use of these mats on top of concrete.

Surely that's the whole point of them Janet! They wouldn't exactly be required on top of rubber would they?
