Trap shooters Jason John Aquilina, George Cassar and Jeffrey Pisani will be in action at the 2011 ISSF World Championships in Belgrade between today and tomorrow.

Saviour Portelli, the president of the Malta Shooting Sport Federation (MSSF), is accom-panying the Maltese trap trio in the Serbian capital.

Saturday will see William Chetcuti, winner of a World Cup shoot in Beijing earlier this year, and Nathan Lee Xuereb take part in the double trap competition at the ISSF World Championships. They will be assisted by MSSF coach Jimmy Bugeja.

Clive Farrugia will figure in the skeet event starting today week. Coach Ludovico Di Maio will also travel to Belgrade to provide guidance for Farrugia.

The MSSF also announced that it will be organising The Dritta Team Event this Thursday. Teams from all localities are encouraged to take part in this annual event, the MSSF said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Gozitan shooter Charlie Calleja yesterday won the Franwin Trap Trophy. The competition, held at the MSSF ranges in Bidnija, was over 50 clays with the best six shooters targeting another 25 clays during the barrage final.

Calleja topped the classification with 68 points (46+22), four ahead of Nicky Carabott (42+22). Frankie Scorfna was third on 63 points (45+18). The other shooters who qualified for the barrage were Warren Sammut (62), Joe Cutajar (61) and George Mifsud (55).
