Music lovers who attended Rockestra at Ta’ Qali on Saturday were treated to the intertwined sounds of classical and rock music, in one of the main events on the local music calender.

Rockestra is a rock concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra organised by the Malta Community Chest Fund to raise funds for people in need.

The concert, under the direction of Sigmund Mifsud, included works by legendary bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Metallica.

The 70-piece orchestra performed a number of instrumental pieces and for others was joined by local artistes including Ivan Filletti, Paul Borg Bonaci from Fakawi, Gianni and Glenn Vella.

This year more singers than usual took part. They were accompanied by string, woodwind, brass and percussion sections, together with more contemporary instruments like electric and bass guitars, synthesisers, saxophones and a drum kit.

In a first, the playlist had been selected by the audience beforehand via a Facebook page.
