The health department has denied issuing a warning that tear gas was used at Havana Club in Paceville yesterday night and that people who were there should call for a medical check-up.

On Facebook, a status claiming it is a warning issued by the Health Department Unit says “CS gas was released in Havana Club, Paceville between 23:00 and 02:00hrs”, asking people to copy and paste it onto their own status.

It continues to read:

“If you were present at this time in this particular Club please seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms include mild to severe coughing, headaches and chest pains. CS gas can cause severe pulmonary damage and can also permanently damage the heart and liver.” The message also gave a telephone number where people could ask for information.

Contacted by timesofmalta.com, the Environmental Health Department said it had issued no such notice.
