Dogs dumped in Gozo

The rescued dog and her two puppies are being showered with care by volunteers at the Gozo SPCA.

The rescued dog and her two puppies are being showered with care by volunteers at the Gozo SPCA.

A dog and her two puppies, which were callously dumped on the grounds of Hotel Ta’ Ċenċ, were rescued from needless suffering by hotel staff and the Gozo SPCA.

The dogs were left in an area frequented by hotel staff, which meant they were found relatively quickly.

Gozo SPCA said hotel staff were waiting to show the animal welfare officer the location of “this sad little family”.

After just a few days in care, the puppies are thriving, but their mother remains traumatised, albeit responding well to the loving care being showered on her.

On the same day the puppies were rescued, a six-month old Dalmatian cross, named Sheila, was brought into the centre after she was abandoned at the Gozitano Complex, Xewkija, three weeks earlier.

Gozo SPCA said a resident was caring for this dog until a space at its overcrowded re-homing centre came up.

Betty Berry, from the Gozo SPCA, said these two examples showed how much could be done for animals when businesses, residents and Gozo SPCA worked together.

Anybody interested in offering a home to one of the dogs can call 2155 3769 or e-mail info@spca-gozo.org.

Funny how nobody from ''the greater race'' (The Maltese) replied to this the only reply that makes sense. Maybe Gozitans aren't the closed minded ones after all.....

Although we visit Gozo quite often and love the place verymuch, however when reading such articles as per the above we tend to have second thoughts about revisitng Gozo or even advice our friends whether to spend time over there. This is unfortunitly way out of order and in a civilized world respectable reponsible folk usually act morally and use their god giving brain to do the right thing when it comes to placing animals in this case a mother and her cubs in a dog's home, all they had to do is to telelphone RSPCA Malta or Gozo and they would have been picked up free of charge, and who ever this bright spark is don't have to fork out any of their precious dough (money), but by dumping them on the grounds at Ta' Cenc's Hotel in Gozo, why nobody knows maybe they wanted to prove a point or have something against the Hotel staff and mangement. Don't want to sound nasty but here it comes...HOPE THE PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE MAY ROT IN HELL FOR ETERNITY --and thats an order. (666)!

Spot on. Half of the Maltese don’t have a proper education let alone the Gozitans. This situation is very unfortunate since our islands are densely populated and hence an appropriate level of education which is also expressed as social and civic duties is essential for our relatively closed society.

I say @A.Peterson, thats not a very nice comment to say about some but not all* Gozitans, however in this case pretending they are poor yet they own millions in properties is correct, how do you thing they get their money by being tight and want everything for niks- gratis or free, i also agree that Gozo is the No.1 culprit regarding treating their animals as i presume used to treat their donkeys (lol) same way many moons ago,now the poor dogs and cats are suffering, the Maltese are no different but the Gozitans take the cherry on the cake. Most definitly either they need to tighten their belt and re-adjust to our european standards or stay naive ignorant or backward for the rest of their > rich <life,as some are now at this moment in time, i am sure they can afford to take their unwanted animals to their local animal care center, however rightly so as you say too bloody lazy to get off that big fat bum. i too call a spade a spade. Fair play to the satff to the Hotel Staff at Ta' Cenc (A nice Hotel/& restaurant i must say and also to the Gozo SPCA)..

Mr.Falzon quite right amigo, but since most of this type of crulity tend to iminate from Gozo, although the majority of the Gozitians are backwards, and less then 25% have a proper education they sure know how to make money and over charge us the Maltese and the POOR tourists who do not have a choice but to pay through the nose for a filthy farmhouse or a run down shack. owned by the Gozitans. As for their animals if i had my way i would employ special wardens as most countries do in the eu and inspectors and put them in their place if they are mistreating any animal in their care. FULL STOP:-.
