He’s probably Malta’s best-known country artist, thanks to his forays in the US and an impressive number of international country radio hits.
With two acclaimed albums behind him, Marty Rivers is all set to release his third album. Midnight Sky will be officially launched at an event also featuring the screening of a new video and a short performance by Rivers.
The launch will be held at Murphy’s Irish Bar, Qawra, on September 14, at 11 a.m. This is his second release on US label Amber Star Records.
Rivers released his self-titled debut in 1998, with the album spawning three international radio hits, including The Lord Is Coming Soon, which topped the International Gospel Charts and made it to number three on the American Country Gospel Music charts.
In 2007 he released Out Of The Blue, which was recorded in Nashville and also gave Rivers a number of radio hits, among them Made in Mexico, which got to the number one spot on the Joyce Ramgatie International Country Music charts.
His latest album features a collection of 12 new songs, 11 of which were penned by Rivers and his longtime collaborator Joe Spiteri. Like his previous album, Midnight Sky was recorded in Nashville with a group of top-class musicians and produced by Gary Carter, who has worked with world-renowned artists such as Randy Travis and Faith Hill.
The new album has already been landing positive reviews, with CMR Nashville radio DJ Ricky Lee hailing it as “a very good album”, BBC Radio’s Keith Greentree saying “it will surely feature on our shows”, and UK radio WHCR FM’s Veronica Capaldi commenting that “the excellent tracks and well-written songs make this album stand out”.
Speaking about the new album, Rivers said “I feel the songs project the versatility in styles, topics and moods that I have already exhibited in previous albums.”
The first single released off Midnight Sky was Run Angel Run, which has already done quite well, reaching the number eight spot in the Hotdisc Country Music Top 40.
