A woman who short circuited wires in a holding cell, causing a blackout at police headquarters was today handed a suspended jail term.
The woman, Ingrid Kalviste, 25 of Estonia, also set fire to a pillowcase in the cell.
She pleaded guilty to assaulting seven policemen, damaging a police van, damaging a police cell and illegally carrying a glass cup in a public place.
The whole incident was sparked off when a policeman approached the woman in Paceville on August 15, telling her that it was illegal to carry a glass cup in the street. The woman reacted violently, and her violent behaviour got worse when she was arrested and taken to a police van and later to police headquarters.
The woman was today sentenced to a prison term of 18 months suspended for three years and ordered to pay €260 in damages to the Police Commissioner.
