PN hits out at media stories on home affairs minister

The Nationalist Party this morning criticised a story in One News which claimed that Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici may be replaced by Beppe Fenech Adami. The story was also features in l-orizzont.

In a statement, the party said that Labour leader Joseph Muscat knew that Dr Mifsud Bonnici was in hospital, but this did not stop his media from stooping so low as "to fabricate a shallow and scandalous story. To add insult to injury, it was claimed that " in order to justify this move, health reasons will be mentioned as the cause for his removal ".

This, the PN said, showed the PL to be cold, shameless, and highly unethical.

"The shameless and highly unethical story on One News was penned by someone who until a few days ago was Joseph Muscat's personal assistant. Today he heads the Labour Party media. Through this appointment, Joseph Muscat wanted to make sure that he has total control of the Labour media. Hence, Joseph Muscat was aware and had a hand in that disgusting story," the PN said.

"When Joseph Muscat was elected Party leader, he appointed a committee to draw up a code of ethics for the Labour Party media. Back then, he had pledged that under his leadership the Labour Party journalists will be ethical in their work and the stories they report. Now, it is clear that that was a superficial exercise, typical of Joseph Muscat, to give the impression that he means business and that he is all for ethical reporting – when he is not," the PN said.

Oh come on, I'm all about ditching this government down the drain, but you can't ignore the fact that a change in politics has happened a long time ago, yes, thanks to Dr Gonzi's party.

Pat , voters have a right to know to whom they are voting .
A prime minister with a serious health problem is one thing, a minister on sick leave is another. Hopefully Carm’s sickness is not serious .

WOw Pat Hobson today seems to have some free time to lash out on PN supporters ... forgot what a guy called us PN supporters? "DNA HAZINA!" ... But unfortunately blinded political supporters only remember what they like

When Alfred Sant was in hospital in 2008, the Prime Minister had issued a press release to wish him well and the PN had done the same. The Nationalist media did not play any tricks and did not speculate.

oh! So by your reasoning the PL is just as bad. If the PN is insensitive, than so can the PL be. How progressive.

R.Saliba - What Mr Laviera said is that the PN should not be scandalised because someone is using their own tactics even if on a smaller scale. As the saying goes "What is good for the goose is good for the gender".
Anyway back in 2008, the PN media gave a full account of Dr Sant's illness, because they said that since he is the leader of the oppisition the Nation has a right to know what he has, and how he is. Now they should have been the first to tell us what the Minister has and how he is. It's no use beating about the bush, what was right then is right now period.

@Mr Pat Hobson
that is definitely not the case.
The person happens to have serious medical matters.
The way the MLP media "transformed" this into cheap partisan issue is DISGUSTING!

@Mr Pat Hobson
You are right, HE REALLY HAS HEALTH ISSUES!! and PL and it's media decided to try to gain benefit out of that as well. One should feel ashamed supporting such people!!

@A. Tabone
As an independent voter, I definitely will not vote for Dr. JM., so one can say I am one with a limited choice for who to vote, considering that as of lately the PN are not much doing better.
But, when both parties are put to scale I believe the biggest asset for the PN is this new star Dr. JM. and his new found friends I saw him drinking with lately.
As they say Joseph keep it up.

Mud Slinging? hmm i think PL learnt its tactics from the PN (about time as well) lets say a Taste of their own Medicine !!

Still I find that where health is involved BOTH politcial medias (including the so called Govt station) should back off, and if anything they should offer support

Mr Pat Hobson

You an independent voter???!!!! You really made me laugh! Just go over your posts and see how independent you are.

@ Pat Hobson
It is so nice to hear I gave you a laugh, on my part the opposite is happening to me, when I realize that as an ex-committee member and ex-district committee member of the OLD Malta Labour Party I see my party has reached such lows as inviting people who their likes in Egypt today are staying they want to kill Christians.

This was a Disgusting scoop. to say the least.
But the MLP can stoop so low that no-one is surprised.
Anyone with Labour tendencies , who has some form of decency, should acknowledge this.
The least they can do is Shut up and stop this charade
