With reference to Joseph Schembri’s letter (No Action On Water Leak, August 27), I would like to inform readers that the leak in question was repaired on the previous Thursday, August 25, that is two days before publication of the complaint.
While thanking Mr Schembri for being civic-minded and bothering to report the leak in the first place, I wish to point out that tracing water leaks is often quite challenging. Leaks are often far from where they appear which takes technicians time to zero-in upon them.
Moreover, when leaks are eventually found the necessary permits to dig up the street to carry out repairs are not always issued immediately for a number of reasons, such as traffic management, etc.
But most important of all is that we prioritise leak-detection and repairs according to the seriousness of the leak.
We always bear in mind that we are dealing with a precious resource so we tackle the most serious leaks first.
