A bus fire extinguisher went off for no apparent reason, startling passengers and engulfing them in powder as the vehicle made its way to the University on Friday.
A passenger reported that around 1.20 p.m., as Bus 32 was turning around the Msida Skate Park, she heard a loud thud “as if the floor of the bus had hit something on the road” and saw what looked like smoke rising from the floor of the bus towards the back.
“I couldn’t see the people at the front; it was like a smoke bomb. A baby, who was with his mother, wouldn’t stop crying,” the passenger said.
The bus immediately stopped at the next stage, where passengers were transferred to another vehicle.
An Arriva spokesman said the incident “is being investigated”.
