So ‘developers’ have finally managed to get their project for the construction of dwellings and garages in Triq it-Tabib Zammit, Balzan, approved by Mepa, even though this massive development is located largely within the urban conser-vation area of the village. A large attractive streamer is already in place advertising the sale of these “quality family homes”, as they are being called.
I am amazed and disgusted how offensively cheeky some ‘developers’ can be when, in order to maximise the value of their property and entice prospective buyers of these apartments and maisonettes, they capitalise on the fact that these apartments lie “in the village core of Balzan” when – I am sure – they are aware that this project will not only deal another blow to the core of this typical village and destroy one of its few remaining open spaces but will also further contribute to the systematic erosion of village characteristics and to the progressive deterioration of its environment.
