Eight young Maltese musicians recently participated in the Bedstone International Summer Youth Orchestra Camp in Shropshire, UK.

BISYOC is an intercultural youth orchestra formed for 10 days during which musicians rehearse together, have ensemble and composition workshops, get to know each other’s different backgrounds and perform in a chamber concert and two symphonic concerts.

The symphonic concert programme featured Introduction to Also Sprach Zarathustra (Strauss), Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture (Tchaikovsky), The Planets Suite (Holst) and Across the Stars from Star Wars (Williams).

The orchestra was directed by Julian Gibbons.

Alex Abela and Laura Cioffi played as principals in their respective sections, while Keith Sacco played the cor anglais for the first time.

The musicians’ participation in the event was part-sponsored by the Malta Arts Fund.
