Paris Hilton’s ex-boyfriend was fined £355 and ordered to stay out of trouble as he settled drug charges stemming from a Las Vegas Strip traffic stop with the celebrity socialite last year.

Cy Waits, 35, was sentenced after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of drugs.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Bill Kephart ordered Mr Waits to attend DUI (driving under the influence) and “victim impact” classes, gave him a 30-day suspended jail sentence, and warned him not to make the same mistake twice.

“If you are arrested for another DUI during the pendency of this case, I don’t care if it’s alcohol or drugs, you will do six months in the Clark County jail,” the judge said.

He set a date of November 23 to review Mr Waits’ case.

Mr Waits emerged from the courtroom with his lawyer, Richard Schonfeld, and said he was glad to have the case behind him.

The former Las Vegas nightclub manager declined to talk about his relationship with Ms Hilton, calling it a “chapter in my life that’s closed”.

Waits was arrested on August 27 last year after a Las Vegas police officer reported a “vapour trail” of marijuana smoke wafting from a black Cadillac Escalade with Waits at the wheel. Ms Hilton, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested after police said a small bag containing 0.8g of cocaine fell from her Chanel handbag as she reached for a tube of lip balm.
