The Ecclesiastical Tribunal has reinstated Deborah Schembri in the Album of Ecclesiastical Advocates.

Dr Schembri, who headed the pro-divorce movement in the referendum campaign, had been banned by the Church authorities from serving on the Tribunal after it was claimed that she was spreading false doctrine on the indissolubility of marriage.

She said when contacted she was very happy with the decision but she still had questions which needed answering, specifically as to the reasons behind her reinstatement.

She wrote on her Facebook page today:

"I am very glad to announce that I am once again taking Ecclesiastical Tribunal annulment cases after having been given the news this morning, by His Excellency the Archbishop, that I am reinstated in the Album of Ecclesiastical Advocates.

"Thank you all for your support throughout this ordeal. Much appreciated."

In a statement the Labour Party welcomed the decision, which it described as a sign of good will.
