A delegation from Union Ħad-diema Magħqudin yesterday paid a visit to the new multi-million euro Progress Press building in Mrieħel.
The delegation, including general secretary Gejtu Vella and president Gejtu Tanti, was shown around the €30 million printing facility by Progress Press managing director Adrian Hillman and Allied Newspapers Ltd managing director Vince Buhagiar.
Mr Vella, whose union represents the majority of Progress Press employees, said the changing nature of workplaces meant the union would have to keep encouraging lifelong learning and training for workers to adapt to a new situation.
Mr Hillman said the strength of the company, which employs 100 people, lay also in the flexibility of the workers, who had managed to make the transition to a new system successfully.
The new printing facility handles a wider range of print jobs on a larger floor than its previous Valletta building, which it shared with The Times.
Progress Press is part of the Allied Group of Companies, which includes Allied Newspapers Ltd, publisher of The Times, The Sunday Times and timesofmalta.com. The group employs about 250 people.
