I was very saddened to read the article about “faith defectors” (August 20) where it was mentioned that 41 young people are insisting on disassociating themselves from the Catholic Church.
Jesus has very generously given us free will so all they have to do is declare themselves non-practising Catholics or simply that they are now new age atheists. Is it really necessary for them to take legal action against the Curia?
Later that day, I was watching World Youth Day in Spain – 6,000 Catholic seminarians, many thousands of pilgrims from all over the world, of whom quite a few hundred were Maltese, making a grand show of solidarity with Pope Benedict XVI, which ended my day very happily.
