Delicata to host festival in Nadur

In a week’s time, Delicata’s Ninth Classic Wine Festival will get underway in the heart of Gozo’s viticultural area, Nadur.

Following years of success, this popular wine event will once again take place to celebrate the closing days of the Maltese and Gozitan grape harvest.

Over 20 DOK and IGT quality wines from Malta and Gozo will be available for visitors. The festival is run in close collaboration with the Nadur local council and will take place at the Ġnien il-Kunsill which enjoys spectacular views of the Nadur valley leading down to Mġarr and across the channel taking in the islands of Comino and Malta.

The event takes place over three evenings – next Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7 p.m. until midnight.

On every night there will be live entertainment provided by J.Anvil and Cash & Band on Friday, Chasing Pandora will take part on Saturday and Inside Plan on Sunday.

A number of stalls will be available selling various traditional delicacies.

Visitors this year will be encouraged to participate in a new Delicata initiative – The Peoples Choice Wine Awards. Wine lovers will have the opportunity to win a case of quality DOK and IGT wines.

There are 23 wines to vote for in Gozo. They include 10 whites, six rosés and seven reds. Tasters need to SMS 50613906, then text the given code (i.e. ABCD) of the particular wine they are voting for. A complete list of all the wines and their respective codes will be displayed on each of the nine wine stands.

For people who wish to vote from the comfort of their own home after the festivals have finished, they can find the SMS numbers and a list of the wines and their relevant codes on www.delicata.com or the Delicata Facebook account.

Voting is open until September 12. Voting is only open to adults over 17 years of age. The wines and their codes available for “taste & text” are as follows:

The results of The 2011 People’s Choice by identifying the winning red, white and rosé wines that received the most votes will be announced later on in this year.
