Swedish police said today a 41-year-old Swedish man is suspected of sexually assaulting nearly 50 minors, most of whom he contacted on the Internet.
The man, who lived in the Stockholm suburbs, has been detained by police since his arrest in April.
He is suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl and other types of sexual assault, as well as paying for sex with some 13 other minors.
Only one of the victims has filed a complaint against the suspect, while the others were contacted by police after being identified from information found on the suspect's computer.
Besides these 14 cases, police suspect that he was involved with 35 other girls, based on clues found in his computer files. In order to find the unidentified girls, Stockholm police plan to send out emails to some 800 addresses kept by the suspect, police said at a press conference.
The suspect allegedly contacted his future victims via chat rooms on the Internet, and through instant messaging and Facebook.
Swedish police also published three pseudonyms used by the suspect online to help the investigation.
