A delegation from the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin this afternoon paid a visit to the new €30-million Progress Press building in Mrieħel.

The delegation, including UĦM general secretary Gejtu Vella and president Gejtu Tanti, was shown around by Allied Newspapers Ltd managing director Vince Buhagiar and Progress Press managing director Adrian Hillman. Allied Newspapers is the parent company of Progress Press.

Mr Vella, whose union represents the majority of Progress Press employees, said the changing nature of workplaces meant the union would have to keep encouraging lifelong learning and training for workers to adapt to new situations.

Mr Hillman said the strength of the company, which employs 100 people, lay also in the flexibility of the workers, who had managed to transition to a new system successfully.

Progress Press is part of the Allied Group of Companies, which includes Allied Newspapers Ltd, publisher of The Times, The Sunday Times and timesofmalta.com.
