Off-duty policeman nabs arsonist

A man who was attempting to set a house door on fire in Qormi was arrested by an off-duty policeman yesterday, the police said.

The man, 35, who hails from Żebbuġ, is expected to be arraigned today.

Inside the house were members of the family who reside there and two Go employees.

The policeman was passing through Main Street when he spotted a man acting suspiciously next to a house. As soon as he realised he was being watched the man made a run for it but the policeman caught up with him.

The man had already set the door alight.

Duty Magistrate Neville Camilleri is heading an inquiry.
