Judicial protest against police over fatal traffic accident

The son of a woman who died in a traffic accident has filed a judicial protest against the Commissioner of Police, complaining that no court action has been taken yet against the driver.

Emanuel Ellul said his mother Vincenza was fatally injured in a traffic accident in Zabbar Road, Paola, on February 8, 2010 because of negligent driving by the driver of the car which hit her.

Although the identity of the driver was known and the magisterial and police investigations had been concluded, no court action had been instituted, Mr Ellul said. 

This delay was unjustified and could prejudice the case and the quality of the evidence given to the court, Mr Ellul said.

He held the Commissioner of police responsible for damages.
