The PN and the PL  have congratulated the Libyan Transitional Council after the fall of Tripoli.

In its statement, the PN promised support to the Libyan people for the building of a new, democratic Libya.

"This is a historic moment for our neighbour Libya, and the Nationalist Party hopes that it will lead to a new page in the history of Libya and the building of a new country based on justice, freedom,  respect for human rights and democracy."

The PN also welcomed the support being given by the Maltese government to the Libyan people.

The Labour Party said that as a party which had always been close to the Libyan people, it wished to congratulate the council and its leader Mahmoud Jibril.

It too augured that this was the dawn of a new era in a society where fundamental rights and freedoms were guaranteed within a democratic constitution drafted and agreed by the people.

The PL paid tribute to all those whose blood was shed and hoped that this would be followed by a process of reconciliation. The party also looked forward to continued good relations between Libya and Malta.
