• A prayer meeting will be held at Girgenti, Siġġiewi today at 6.30 p.m. by the Moviment Madonna tal-Konsagrazzjoni committee. The public is invited to attend. For details view www.ourladyofconsecration.org.

• A bazaar is being held at Ċentru Antida, Tarxien Road, Tarxien in aid of St Jeanne Antide Foundation. Open every Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. till noon.

• The next Mir prayer meeting will be held on Tuesday from 7.30 to 10 p.m. at St Paul’s Bay parish church. The meeting, led by Fr Hayden Williams, OFM Cap., will consist of the rosary, Mass and adoration. Priests will be available to hear confession. Those attending are asked to bring with them items of food to donate to Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem, which works with homeless people. • Cabaret artist Joe Cutajar will be performing live with his band at Tal-Għażżelin esplanade (Simenta) in St Paul’s Bay on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Although the performance is free of charge, patrons are highly recommended to reserve a seat by calling: 9945 5715.

• The heritage and environment group Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) will be holding a fortifications dinner cruise on the Fernandes on Friday in conjunction with militaryarchitecture.com. A commentary about Valletta’s harbours and fortifications has been prepared specially for this sunset cruise by Stephen Spiteri, the authority on Malta’s fortifications who will accompany the cruise. Following a welcome drink, there will be a buffet dinner in the Grand Harbour including grilled steak and fish, cold cuts, salads, dessert and wine at a cost of €30 per person. • The next meeting of the San Ġorġ Preca Group is to be held on Friday at 6.30 p.m. at the MUSEUM headquarters at Blata l-Bajda (entrance next to Preca Library). Couples and mature adults are especially invited.

• The Sliema Band will be performing band marches next Sunday from 7 p.m. onwards for the feast of St Dominic celebrated in Vittoriosa. The Sliema Band conducted by Ronnie Debattista will perform band marches and processional hymns.

• St James Cavalier is calling for artists and other creative people to propose projects and events aimed specifically at children. The centre is looking for high-quality projects which are specifically aimed at the following age groups 0-4; 3+; 6+; 8+ and 11+. At this point St James is requesting outlines of ideas. Applications should include information about the artists as well as examples of previous work. The closing date is August 31. • A summer barbecue in aid of YMCA Homeless is being held on September 1 at 7.30 for 8 p.m. at Villa Bighi, Kalkara. Tickets are at €25 per person For bookings call at YMCA Drop In (Valletta) or call 2124 0680. If you book a table of eight, you pay for seven.

• A Mission Fund day trip to Gozo will take place on September 3 in aid of Maltese missionaries working in poor countries. The meeting point is in Mġarr, Gozo, at 9.45 a.m. near to the hop-on-hop-off bus, which will be parked near the ferry boat and reserved especially for the Mission Fund group. At 11 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at ta’ Pinu by Fr Marcellino Micallef OFM. The group will then visit Victoria, Xlendi, Marsalforn for lunch, Ġgantija temples, Calypso Cave, Ta’ Dbiegi Crafts Village, Dwejra, Fontana and Xewkija. Return trip is at 4 p.m. The price is €25 for adults and €12 for children under 12 years, including all transport in Gozo and lunch.
