Does this make news? The millions of other youths that are participating dosent make more news? Why is it that there is alawys a negative vision of such a lovely experience like a world Youth praising God.

While there are thousands of anti-Catholic and anti-Pope, there are hundreds of thousands who are happy to see the Pope. And yes whilst millions are spent, millions are re-pumped into the economy, its just an excuse to riot.

Is the money spent the real reason for all the protesters or is it the actual Pope's visit?
I wonder!!!

As the southern eurozone states are in dire straits it makes no sense to spend all this money on a visit by anybody. The usual political way of alienating the crowd that ends up having to make the sacrifices later on.

Some of the money spent is recycled and end up into the workers pockets. there is also ( always) the multiplier effect and thus business is motivated. There is also the fact that some activities would have improved the status quo embelishing the enviroument, road cleaning ecc. Not to mention the money spend at reataurants and transport by the youths directing more money into the workers'pockets.
Airlines, trains transporting the youths to Spain also got a boost. BUT some people always look at the affairs involvong the church from a negative angle, the main thing for them is to attack the church. They lastly but still very important this visit makes more people happy than not except the ones who are anti-Catholic.

There are millions of tourists that have gone to Spain, as this visit is part of the youth gathering. These shall be pumping in millions in the pockets of the Spaniards. But as usual, the noise of a few protesters makes news while the millions that are celebrating are completely ignored by the manipulating news agencies and news media!

Given the financial woes that Spain is going through, the Vatican should have covered the cost of the Pope's visit itself. Very few visiting dignitaries cost the hosting country €50 million per visit.

But it is OK to spend $65 million on an F1 car race and make 35 million loss as In the Melbourne Grand Prix.! As someone has already said the money spent in Spain for the WYD could be seen as an economic stimulus package for its own citizens and economy which with over 1.5 million extra tourists will yield to the Spanish economy multiple the initial investment.
We had the same type of whinging for the Sydney WYD even though there was no economic "crisis" in Australia at the time. The issue is anti Catholicism and not "money" Vaster sums of money are spent on political frivolities, like the billions spent as an "economic" and Green stimulus by the Australian Government in providing roof insulation for private housing, a project which will yield absolutely no return once the world economy turns around.
