A French student who shattered the glass door of a Paceville nightclub was yesterday conditionally discharged and ordered to foot the €130 repair bill by the time he leaves next week.

Malek Sami Haddad, 18, who is holidaying in Malta, punched the door of the Havana night club when he thought bouncers were rather heavy handed with his friends, legal aid lawyer Mark Mifsud Cutajar said.

Mr Haddad, admitted to causing the damage at 5 a.m. yesterday.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke conditionally discharged him for one year after taking into consideration his early admission. She warned him that the conviction would appear on his criminal record, which could be accessed by authorities all over Europe.

Police Inspector Malcolm Bondin prosecuted.
