Suspended jail term brought into effect
A man who in September 2009 was given a 15 month jail term suspended for four years, saw his jail term coming into effect today after his probation officer reported he was not obeying probation orders.
Carlos Galea, 27, had been given the suspended jail term and put under probation for four years.
Probation officer Marilyn Attard reported to the court that Mr Galea was not obeying probation orders and had tested positive to cocaine use in June.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera brought the jail term into effect.

I was really happy to hear this piece of news. Surprise, Surprise! No other comments are forthcoming! Where are the numereous commentors whenever a suspended sentence is handed down, or a "recediv" is handed another suspended sentence? Admittedly, it does takes guts to report a misbehaving person under your supervision. This time round, it had to be a woman's guts to go thru with it. Congratulations Ms Attard! we need many more like you who perform their (difficult) job "without fear or favour". Hope many of your collagues will follow your example. Otherwise, everybody, it is useless grumbling about criminals on the loose and getting away with hell all the way.
