A few members of the Libyan community in Malta this morning made another bid to convince the Maltese government to pass on the Libyan embassy to the rebels.

In a protest in front of the embassy in Balzan, which still flies Gaddafi's green flag, the protesters, who were about 30, said they could not understand how the Maltese government could have recognised the National Transitional Council of Libya as the sole interlocutor of the people of Libya but allowed the embassy to still represent Gaddafi's family.

This, they said, was sending out mixed messages.

The protesters said they had written to the Foreign Affairs Ministry requesting action by the government since it could not continue to support two sides at the same time.
