Held over drug possession in Żejtun

A 36-year-old man from Żejtun, known to the police, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly being found in possession of heroin.

The police said yesterday the drug squad arrested the man after days of surveillance, acting on an anonymous tip-off that heroin was being sold in Żejtun.

The police said officers spotted the man acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the parish church and, although he had no drugs on him at the time, a search at his parents’ house close by yielded several packets of heroin and drug-related items such as weighing scales, cash and other paraphernalia.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
