Eleven students were yesterday granted a scholarship under the Malta Arts Scholarship Scheme.

This was the second consecutive year in which arts scholarships were distributed. Thirteen scholarships were granted last year.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said education was key to the investment and the generation of employment. He said the government set up the Malta Government Scholarship Scheme in 2006 to invest in Masters and doctorate students. This was followed with the launching of the STEPS scheme, co-funded by the European Social Fund, two years later.
