I have been a regular visitor to the beautiful island of Malta for the past 35 years and have seen many, many changes and not all of them are an improvement, I am sorry to say.
When I first started to take my holidays there, Malta was aglow with old-world charm. Time seemed to have stood still and it was a wonderful place to be. Obviously, this was from a tourist’s viewpoint and, possibly, the Maltese people saw things in a different light. After reading all the online comments about the old buses, which I have been doing since Arriva arrived, and not in a blaze of glory, I am sorry the Maltese are experiencing many problems.
Personally, and, again, from a tourist’s viewpoint, I enjoyed the old buses as part of my holiday experience and I feel that another slice of the old, wonderful and unique character of Malta has been lost forever. I have many good friends in Malta and look forward to discussing the situation and if things are as bad as the online comments indicate it may well be my last visit.
May I thank the people I have come in contact with in Malta over the years for the wonderful holidays and I sincerely hope the bus problems are resolved quickly as I am sure they will.
