Popular Maltese duo Tenishia have released a new album that ventures beyond the popular dance music it has become internationally renowned for.

According to Cyprian Cassar and Joven Grech, their latest venture, the chill-out album Frozen Roads, is a reflection of the duo’s ‘No limits to music’ policy.

“We don’t believe music should have limits,” Cassar says, quoting DJ Armin van Buuren, who believes no artist should be a prisoner of a particular music genre.

“This is one of the reasons we are back with an album that offers a side to our music that is entirely different from what people have come to expect from us over the years.

“This album is not only for those who follow us in the clubs, but for all those who enjoy beautiful music.”

Frozen Roads is the result of a period of hard work, much of which Grech and Cassar spent holed up in their Marsascala studio with this new musical challenge as their main focus. The album features 15 original chill-out productions, including some whose blend of lush orchestration and use of guitar and piano might also be considered as soundtrack music.

Tenishia fans will most likely recognise some of the tracks, as a few are actually chill-out versions of previously released Progressive Trance cuts, but the release also features tracks that were specifically composed for the album.

All music on Frozen Roads was written, arranged and produced by the Maltese duo, with several international vocalists, among them Kirsty Hawkshaw and Jan Johnston, making guest appearances.

Asked about the album’s downbeat inclination, Grech remarked that “this will open new horizons for us; new opportunities that we could never have had by focusing solely on club music”.

He also spoke of the various options such music offered. “These are tracks we can perform in a theatre with an orchestra. There is still a strong presence of our Trance roots in the music, of course, and hopefully this will convince those who feel club music is purely mechanical that there is more to it than just boom, boom, boom”.

The award-winning duo considers this album as another milestone in its successful international career to date. “We’ve signed the album to Armada Records, as they showed a lot of interest and supported us in this project from the beginning”. The album is being released internationally this month, with the official CD release for Malta scheduled for September.

The full tracklisting is Frozen Roads, Invisible (ft Kirsty Hawkshaw), Reasons To Forgive (ft Hawkshaw), Burning From The Inside (ft Tiff Lacey), Fallen (ft Hawkshaw), Everything, I’m Not God (w/Roger Shah ft Lorilee), Monsoon, Flesh (ft Jan Johnston), The Other Side (ft Susana), Stranger To Myself (ft Aneym), Man In Denial (ft Aneym), Shores Of Eden, Story Of Life (ft Ruben de Ronde) and The Ones We Left Behind.
