Birkirkara St Joseph SC triathlete, Dermot Galea, who is doing a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology at Loughborough University, produced another fine performance in the UK recently.

Galea took part in the Blithfield Sprint Triathlon which forms part of the Blue Seventy Triathlon Series.

Notwithstanding the technical and undulating course, he topped his age-group and placed fifth overall.

Galea came out of the water in ninth place in a good time of 10 minutes 54 seconds following a 750-metre lake swim.

Determined to catch up with the leaders, he set a strong pace during the bike segment, finishing the 20km ride in 33 minutes and 42 seconds.

Back into transition area in fifth place, the Birkirkara SJ man set off for the final five-kilometre run on a course with long stretches of rough terrain.

Although Galea is not accus-tomed to running on such terrain, he moved up to fourth place.

However, in the final stages, he was overhauled by a Total Fitness Nottingham team triathlete and had to settle for fifth, finishing the race in 1:04.38. He covered the 5km offroad course in 18:20.

Galea, who is sponsored by Linebreak Clothing, is currently eighth in the classification of the Blue Seventy Triathlon Series.
