Luxembourg’s FC Differdange will replace Olympiacos Volos in the Europa League play-offs after the Greek club were excluded from the competition, UEFA confirmed yesterday.

European football’s ruling body kicked Olympiacos Volos out of the tournament this week due to their implication in a match-fixing scandal.

Differdange, eliminated by Volos in the previous round, will now meet French side Paris SG in the competition over two legs on August 18 and 25.

Differdange president Fabrizio Bei told AFP that he had been “contacted by Parisian officials who had enquired in an informal manner about the stadium’s capacity to host the match and concerning hotels”.
