Two Senegalese men who admitted to selling counterfeit items at Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa were given suspended sentences yesterday.
Kane Talla, 36, and Amar Babacar, 35, pleaded guilty to selling counterfeit wallets, watches and sunglasses on Tuesday and before.
Lawyer Yana Micallef Stafrace, who appeared as legal aid for the two men, told the court her clients were trying to make a living.
In his considerations, Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna said that his hands “were tied”, adding that he could only give a suspended sentence in view of their guilty plea.
Mr Talla was given a two-year jail term suspended for four and fined €92 while Mr Babacar was given a one-year jail term suspended for two and fined €116.
Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.
