More than 600 Maltese young people are heading for Spain for World Youth Day events which will be presided by the Pope in Madrid.

The international event is a celebration of culture and Catholic faith that brings together millions of young people from around the world.

A large Maltese group left Malta yesterday evening.

Also attending is Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, who will also lead a series of meetings. Maltese youths will also take part in cultural events. RiSe Band and singer Fr Robert Galea will participate in concerts.

The Diocesan Youth Commission will hold a Malta Day in Madrid tomorrow.

Youths will hold a vigil with Pope Benedict at Cuatro Vientos  airport.
