Noel Calleja, 31 of Sta Venera today pleaed not guilty to having, on July 10, tried to kill his former girlfriend Josianne Bonnici, seriously injuring her. He also denied being in unlawful possession of a knife and relapsing.

Defence counsel Jose' Herrera said he was not requesting bail for the time being. He said that had plea bargaining been possible in the Magistrates' Court,  it would probably result that this was a case of serious injury not attempted murder.

Sources said that the injuries suffered by the victim were superficial cuts, not stab wounds.
