Suspect held after drugs surveillance operation

A convicted criminal, being held under arrest after a police surveillance operation indicated drug trafficking near his family home, is expected to be arraigned in the coming days.

The 25-year-old suspect was seen leaving the house in Sta Luċija and as officers approached him he sped off in a car and in the process damaging their vehicle, the police said.

During a search in the house, the police said, officers found 40 grams of heroin, an amount of cannabis resin as well as cannabis leaves and more than €4,000 in cash. Other drug related paraphernalia were also found.

The police said the suspect had just completed a prison term on non drug related charges.

The suspect is expected to face charges ranging from aggravated possession and trafficking in drugs to voluntary damage.
